The IEC Institute of Education and Citizenship

The Institute of Education and Citizenship (IEC) was created on November 24th, 2005, in the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, in the Bairrada region. The IEC is a Modern School, which provides lifelong education in a culturally and materially disadvantaged region, with school dropouts.

The IEC is installed in a building built by the municipality, and works in collaboration with higher education institutions, with research institutes, Science Living Centers and with strong connections to schools.

​

The IEC aims to involve schools, students' families, and the community. The IEC is a window of the outside world from which a large part of the population living in rural areas with low education is currently excluded.

Quem somos?

The IEC and the associated institutions, in collaboration with the local authority and other local forces, ensure a program aimed at the population: children's library, youth, adult, teaching and cultural activities aimed at parents.

What is IEC?

  • The IEC is a non-profit institution, focused on the challenges of the 21st Century.

 

  • The IEC is an institute for citizenship, close to citizens and schools.

 

  • The IEC brings citizens of rural areas the knowledge that are as fundamental today as it was to know how to read in the beginning of the 20th century.

 

  • IEC is a Modern School of Sciences, Technologies, Arts, Humanities, and Science dissemination, knowledge and general culture.
